Place Garibaldi

Place Garibaldi is Nice's oldest grand square. Three storey buildings surround the square all painted the same in the same reddish ochre with arcades running along the ground floors. It was modelled on the arcaded squares in Turin. The arcades give you repeating arches to experiment with, and standing in a quiet corner lets you line up two full sides in one frame. Trams cross without any overhead wires, so nothing cuts across the sky in a wide shot. Grey stone slabs cover the centre and are usually quite reflective after a rain. The Garibaldi statue stand in the middle of the square in a shallow pool, with oak trees dotting the area for shade and foreground. At the south end, the Chapelle du Saint-Sépulcre looks down over the square. You can easily grab a café table under the arcades and shoot peacefully from there as you watch people go by.
