Puck's Castle is a crumbling 16th-century tower house tucked into the wooded hillside south of Dublin, where mossy stone walls, ivy creep, and a quietly atmospheric ruin come together in a compact but rewarding subject. The structure is small enough to frame entirely with a wide or standard lens, but the textured stonework and ragged window openings reward tighter compositions too. Shooting through the arched openings creates natural frames, and the surrounding trees add depth and context when you pull back for wider environmental shots. Overcast days work particularly well here, softening shadows and bringing out the rich greens of the moss and vegetation against the grey limestone. The site sits just off the road in Rathmichael and is easily accessible on foot with no significant obstacles. Early morning visits give you the best chance of mist in the surrounding woodland, adding mood to an already evocative subject. (Rathmichael, County Dublin, Ireland)
