Queen St Bridge
Built in 1911 by the Cleveland Bridge and Engineering Company, this steel Pratt truss viaduct carries Queen Street over the Don River Valley and remains one of Toronto's most characterful bridges. The structure's open lattice steelwork creates strong geometric patterns, and the best compositions use the repeating truss diagonals as leading lines stretching into the distance. Your best shot often comes when a red TTC streetcar crosses the bridge, so patience pays off here. Shoot from the sidewalk level to keep the truss framework prominent in the frame, or drop down to the valley paths below for a wider view showing the full span in context. A mid-range zoom around 35 to 50mm works well for the streetcar compositions, while a wider lens captures the full structure from below. Overcast days reduce harsh shadows within the metalwork and make the red streetcars pop. (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
