Queen Street Viaduct

The Queen Street Viaduct carries Queen Street East over the Don River Valley, offering dramatic elevated views of the valley's green corridor to the west and the city skyline beyond. The bridge itself has elegant concrete arches that make strong geometric subjects, and you can shoot from both the sidewalk level on the bridge and from the valley paths below to get very different perspectives. From below, position yourself to frame the arches against the sky with the river or vegetation in the foreground; a wide angle works well here. From the bridge deck, a longer lens compresses the downtown skyline nicely in the distance. Visit at blue hour or just after sunset when the bridge lights activate and the city glow fills the background, giving you a balance of ambient and artificial light without losing detail in the shadows. The valley paths are accessible via stairs at either end of the bridge. (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
