Watsons Bay Beach is a small, sheltered sandy beach on the eastern shore of Sydney Harbour, offering one of the most rewarding angles on the city skyline you can find. From the waterline or the small jetty nearby, you can frame the distant CBD and Harbour Bridge across a calm stretch of water, with ferries and sailing boats regularly passing through to add life and movement to the scene. Sunset is the prime time to shoot here, as the light falls behind the city and casts a warm glow across the skyline while the harbour glows gold. A telephoto lens in the 70 to 200mm range helps compress the distance and bring the skyline closer. The beach is easily reached by ferry from Circular Quay, which is itself a scenic ride worth shooting. Arrive before sunset to scout your spot along the shore.
