Reiyukai Shakaden Temple is one of Tokyo's most striking pieces of brutalist religious architecture, a massive copper-clad structure that looks more like a landed spacecraft than a place of worship. The building's dark metallic exterior, layered geometric forms, and monumental scale make it endlessly interesting to photograph. Shoot from the opposite side of the street to capture the full facade with a wide or standard lens, or move in close to isolate the angular details and riveted copper panels in abstract compositions. Overcast days work particularly well here because diffused light brings out the rich texture and green patina of the copper without harsh shadows. Early morning on weekdays keeps foot traffic minimal if you want clean shots without pedestrians. The surrounding streets are narrow, so a wider lens in the 16 to 24mm range helps you fit the full structure into frame. (Minato City, Tokyo, Japan)
