Rue St-Paul E View

Rue St-Paul Est is one of Old Montreal's most iconic streetscapes, offering a straight cobblestone corridor lined with 19th-century stone buildings that leads your eye directly toward the silver dome of Marché Bonsecours in the distance. Set up low and central in the street to maximize the leading lines of the cobblestones and let the dome sit naturally at the end of the frame; a 24-35mm focal length works well for capturing the full width of the architecture on both sides. Early morning is ideal, when the street is free of pedestrians and delivery trucks, and the soft directional light rakes across the uneven stone surfaces to bring out texture. Overcast days also work beautifully, keeping the contrast even across the mix of light facades and dark ironwork. The street runs one-way, so watch for occasional vehicle traffic while positioning your shot. (Montréal, Quebec, Canada)
