The Bay Bridge's eastern span stretches dramatically across the water, and Yerba Buena Island gives you one of the best vantage points to capture it, with the illuminated cables and tower reflecting off the bay and the Oakland hills as a backdrop. Shoot from the island's upper roadside pullouts looking east toward Oakland, where you can frame the self-anchored suspension tower against the sky and use the curve of the bridge deck as a natural leading line. Night photography is where this spot truly shines; the Bay Lights installation covers the western span's cables in LEDs, and the eastern span's tower glows against the dark water. Bring a tripod and shoot during blue hour when residual sky color balances the artificial lights. A wide-to-mid zoom in the 24-70mm range handles most compositions well here.
