Space Needle
Built for the 1962 World's Fair, the Space Needle is Seattle's defining silhouette, and it rewards photographers both from the outside and from its observation deck. At ground level, shooting from directly below with a wide-angle lens creates a dramatic upward compression of the tower's distinctive flying saucer shape. Kerry Park on Queen Anne Hill is the classic exterior vantage point, placing the needle in front of the skyline with Elliott Bay and Mount Rainier behind it on clear days. The observation deck gives you unobstructed 360-degree views of the city, water, and mountains. Blue hour and sunrise offer the most balanced light between the illuminated structure and the sky. If you are shooting from Kerry Park, arrive early to claim a spot as it gets crowded, and bring a mid-range zoom to isolate the needle against the background.
