Windmill

Windmill - Photo by Shawn M. Kent1 / 1

This charming heritage-style windmill sits on a narrow strip of land between the Ottawa River and an interior pond in Andrew Hayden Park, giving you water on both sides and plenty of compositional options. You can frame the windmill against the open river with the far shoreline as a backdrop, or turn around and use the quieter pond for reflections on calm mornings. The structure itself is compact and photogenic, with classic wooden blades that work well as a foreground element or main subject. A wide to standard focal length, around 24 to 50mm, handles the scene well. Golden hour light in the morning comes in nicely from the east, catching the blades and warming the surrounding greenery. The park is flat and accessible, with easy walking paths connecting the windmill to the riverbank, where you can step back for a wider environmental shot. (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)
