The Vessel
The Vessel is a honeycomb-like sculptural staircase rising 16 stories at Hudson Yards, built from burnished copper-toned steel that reflects light beautifully at different times of day. The structure's repeating geometric patterns and mirrored surfaces make it endlessly interesting to shoot, whether you are going wide to capture the full form against the sky or moving in tight with a macro or short telephoto to isolate the lattice details. Early morning gives you clean light and far fewer crowds, while golden hour bathes the copper steel in warm tones that match the material perfectly. Shoot from ground level looking up to emphasize scale and symmetry, or use the surrounding plaza to frame the whole structure. A wide angle works well up close, while a 70-200mm lets you compress and isolate repeating patterns from a distance. The plaza is open and flat with no obstructions.
