Town Docks

The Town Docks stretch out into Lake George as a row of seven small wooden piers, offering a classic Adirondack waterfront scene with calm water, distant mountain ridges, and a charming small-town atmosphere. Sunrise is the best time to visit, when soft golden light skims across the lake and the water is typically glassy before the afternoon wind picks up. You can position yourself low on the dock planks and use the parallel piers as strong leading lines pointing toward the open lake and mountains beyond. A wide angle lens works well for capturing the full row of docks with the sky reflected in the water, while a longer focal length lets you compress the mountains into the background. The docks are publicly accessible, right in the center of town, and you can move between them freely to find your preferred framing. (Lake George, New York, United States)
