Union Station
Union Station's Great Hall is one of the most dramatic interior spaces in Canada, a vast limestone and marble concourse with soaring vaulted ceilings, tall arched windows, and warm stone tones that reward wide-angle photography. You will want a 16-24mm lens to capture the full scale of the space; position yourself near the center of the hall and shoot toward either end to take advantage of the long symmetrical axis as a natural leading line. Look up to include the coffered ceiling and the rows of arched windows that flood the hall with diffused natural light, which is best in the mid-morning when the sun angles in without creating harsh contrast. The space stays busy throughout the day, so you can either embrace the motion blur of commuters with a longer exposure or arrive early on a weekend morning for a quieter, cleaner composition. Access is free and open to the public. (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
