Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm
Perched on the slopes of Haleakalā at around 4,000 feet elevation, this working lavender farm offers sweeping views down across Maui's central valley with rows of purple blooms in the foreground. The combination of cultivated lavender terraces and the dramatic volcanic landscape below makes for layered compositions that are hard to find anywhere else in Hawaii. Shoot in the early morning when mist often lingers in the valley and the soft light brings out the purple tones without harsh shadows; golden hour also works well for warm contrast against the lavender. A wide angle lens lets you capture both the flower rows and the panoramic backdrop, while a longer focal length compresses the terraces nicely. Walk the winding garden paths to find tighter detail shots of individual blooms. The farm charges a small entrance fee, and weekday mornings tend to be quieter, giving you more room to compose without crowds in the frame. (Kula, Maui, Hawaii, United States)
