Perched on Observatory Hill in The Rocks, Sydney Observatory is a striking 19th-century sandstone building that offers both architectural drama and sweeping panoramic views across the city and harbour. The copper dome and Italianate tower photograph beautifully against blue sky or at golden hour, when warm light saturates the sandstone facade. For compositions, try shooting upward from the base of the hill to emphasize the building's height against the sky, or position yourself on the surrounding lawns to frame the dome with the Harbour Bridge in the background. A wide to standard focal length works well for architecture here, while a telephoto lets you compress the bridge and building together. The park grounds stay open through the evening, making this a strong option for blue hour shots when the observatory lights up and the city glows behind it. Access is a short but steep walk from The Rocks. (Sydney, New South Wales, Australia)
