Arthur’s Seat
Arthur's Seat is an ancient volcanic peak rising dramatically from Holyrood Park, giving you one of the most commanding panoramic views over Edinburgh's rooftops, castle, and sprawling cityscape. The summit rewards the 45-minute hike with a 360-degree perspective that works well with a wide-angle lens to capture the full sweep of the city, or a telephoto to isolate landmarks like Edinburgh Castle and the Scott Monument against the skyline. Shooting at sunrise is particularly rewarding, when low golden light rakes across the city and morning mist sometimes settles in the valleys below. Sunset and blue hour are equally strong, with warm tones fading over the castle to the west. Wear sturdy shoes as the path is steep and rocky near the top, and be prepared for wind at the summit, which can make handling longer lenses tricky. (Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom)
