Athabasca Falls
Athabasca Falls is one of the most forceful waterfalls in the Canadian Rockies, where the Athabasca River thunders through a narrow quartzite gorge, creating dramatic mist, carved canyon walls, and churning turquoise water below. The falls are compact enough that you can work multiple angles from the network of paved paths and viewpoints surrounding the site, so take time to explore both the upper lookouts for wide establishing shots and the lower canyon views for tight, dramatic framing of the gorge walls. A wide angle lens works well for capturing the full scene, while a telephoto lets you isolate the water's texture and force. Shoot in the morning for softer light and fewer crowds, and use a neutral density filter to achieve silky water effects in longer exposures. Wear waterproof footwear if you plan to get close to the mist, and watch for wet rocks near the edge. (Jasper, Alberta, Canada)
