Bradleys Head Lighthouse
Perched on a rocky headland within Sydney Harbour National Park, this compact 1905 sandstone lighthouse offers one of the most rewarding foreground-to-skyline compositions in the city. Position yourself low on the rocks just below the structure to frame the lighthouse against the full sweep of Sydney Harbour, with the Bridge and Opera House sitting together in the background across the water. A wide angle lens in the 16-24mm range works well for pulling in both the lighthouse and the skyline simultaneously. Morning light is ideal, as the sun rises behind you and bathes the sandstone in warm tones while illuminating the harbour scene ahead. The site is accessible via a short walk through national park bushland, and low tide gives you more rock to work with at the water's edge. Weekdays tend to be quieter if you want the foreground to yourself. (Sydney, New South Wales, Australia)
