Brooke Claxton Building
The Brooke Claxton Building is a striking example of mid-century Modernist and Brutalist federal architecture, rising 19 storeys above the Tunney's Pasture campus with a bold geometric presence that rewards careful compositional work. The tower's repetitive grid of windows and raw concrete surfaces respond well to overcast light, which flattens harsh shadows and brings out texture in the facade; midday on a cloudy day is often more useful here than golden hour. Shoot from ground level looking up to exaggerate the building's vertical scale, or pull back across the open campus grounds to frame the tower against the sky with leading lines from the surrounding pathways and low-rise structures.
