Remic Rapids Park
Remic Rapids Park sits along the Ottawa River just west of downtown Ottawa, where a stretch of rocky rapids meets a rotating outdoor gallery of balanced rock sculptures created by local artist John Felice Ceprano. The stacked stone cairns placed along the shoreline make for striking foreground subjects, especially when framed against the flowing water and the forested Gatineau Hills across the river in Quebec. A wide-angle lens works well for capturing the sculptures in context with the river, while a longer focal length lets you isolate individual stacks against the water or sky. Early morning light is ideal, giving you soft, even tones and fewer visitors in frame; a slow shutter speed during overcast conditions will smooth out the rapids beautifully. The path runs directly along the water's edge, so positioning yourself low and close to the rocks creates a strong sense of depth and scale. (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)
