Inuksuks at Remic Rapids
The shoreline at Remic Rapids is lined with dozens of hand-stacked inuksuks, the traditional Inuit stone figures that visitors have built up over the years along the rocky Ottawa River bank. The combination of these striking silhouettes, the rushing rapids, and the open river beyond makes for a compelling and layered scene. Shoot from a low angle close to the rocks to make the inuksuks loom against the sky or the water, and use a wide angle lens to include multiple figures with the rapids flowing behind them. A longer focal length lets you compress the scene and isolate individual stacks against the churning water. Golden hour light, either morning or evening, brings out the warm tones in the stones and casts long shadows across the riverbank. The site is easily accessible by foot along the Ottawa River Pathway and there is plenty of room to move around and find your framing. (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)
