Little Marsh

Little Marsh - Photo by Shawn M. Kent1 / 1

Little Marsh is a quiet wetland pocket tucked along the Ottawa River Pathway and Trans Canada Trail, where still water, reeds, and surrounding vegetation create a naturally layered scene that rewards patient photographers. The reflections here are the main draw; on calm mornings the water mirrors the sky and surrounding grasses, so shooting low and wide helps maximize that effect. A standard zoom or a short telephoto works well for isolating reed clusters, waterfowl, or the texture of the marsh surface. Early morning is the best time to visit, when mist sometimes lingers over the water and the light is soft and directional. The pathway runs right alongside the marsh, making it easy to access on foot or by bike, and you can work several angles from the trail without needing to leave the path. Watch for birds, particularly herons, which are common in this kind of habitat. (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)
