The ruins of Burgruine Mödling rests high on a hilltop with breathtaking views of the Mödlingbach valley and the Mödling city. The ruined citadel is surrounded by the dense groves of Föhrenberge which makes it challenging to access. The castle was built by Henry de Medlich, possibly in the early years of the 11th Century. It flourished in the 12th Century and came to be known as one of the largest castles of the country. In the 16th Century, a lightning struck the bulwark and caused considerable damage.
