Fjallsárlón
Fjallsárlón is a glacial lagoon sitting at the foot of Vatnajökull, Iceland's largest ice cap, where chunks of vivid blue ice calve directly off the glacier tongue and drift quietly across the water. Unlike its more famous neighbor Jökulsárlón, this lagoon feels quieter and more intimate, giving you better access to the ice and a less crowded foreground to work with. Shoot from the shoreline looking back toward the glacier wall for dramatic compositions, or crouch low to use floating ice chunks as foreground elements with the glacier filling the frame behind. Overcast days are actually ideal here, as soft diffused light brings out the deep blue tones of the ice without harsh shadows. A wide angle lens works well for grand landscape shots, while a short telephoto lets you isolate individual ice formations. The gravel shore is easy to walk, though the ground near the water's edge can be slippery. (Eastern Region, Iceland)
