Gasholders is one of London's most striking architectural conversions, where three interlocking Victorian cast-iron gasholder frames from 1867 now encase a striking circular apartment complex beside Regent's Canal in King's Cross. The repeating cylindrical geometry and industrial ironwork create strong graphic compositions, especially when you shoot upward from inside the frames to compress the layers of metalwork against the sky. The canal in front gives you reflection opportunities on calm mornings, and the contrast between the warm weathered iron and the modern glass interior adds visual depth. Overcast days work well here by softening harsh shadows in the latticed metalwork, but golden hour light raking across the iron columns adds texture and warmth. A wide-angle lens lets you capture the full scale of the structure from close range, while a longer focal length helps isolate the geometric patterns. Street-level access is straightforward along the towpath. (London, England, United Kingdom)
