Platform 9 3/4

Platform 9 3/4 - Photo by Shawn M. Kent1 / 1

The Platform 9¾ installation at King's Cross is one of London's most recognizable pop culture landmarks, featuring a luggage trolley mounted mid-wall to recreate the magical barrier from the Harry Potter series. For the classic shot, get low and shoot upward toward the trolley to exaggerate the illusion of it disappearing into the brick, or position yourself straight on with a 35mm or 50mm lens to keep the composition clean. Staff on site will often hold a scarf up behind you for a more dynamic portrait if you are shooting people. The area gets extremely crowded during peak hours, so arriving early in the morning or on a weekday gives you a much better chance of a clean shot without long queues and bystanders in the frame. The indoor lighting is consistent throughout the day, making it workable any time. The Harry Potter shop sits just beside the installation if you want additional context in wider shots.
