Gaularfjellet Utsikten is a dramatic mountain viewpoint along one of Norway's designated scenic routes, perched at the top of the climb from Vetlefjord with an almost vertiginous drop into deep valleys below. The viewing platform itself makes a strong compositional anchor, and you can use it as a foreground element while framing the road as it snakes down the hillside toward the fjord. Wide angles in the 16-24mm range work well here to capture the full sweep of the valley, the layered ridgelines, and the 1500-metre peaks in the distance. Overcast days soften the contrast between the bright sky and shadowed canyon floor, making midday shooting more viable than at many outdoor locations. The site is roadside and fully accessible with a paved pullout, so you can move quickly between the platform and the road edge to experiment with different angles. Early morning mist settling in the valley adds considerable atmosphere when conditions allow. (Balestrand, Vestland, Norway)
