Hammersmith Bridge

Hammersmith Bridge - Photo by Shawn M. Kent1 / 1

Hammersmith Bridge is a Victorian suspension bridge spanning the Thames, instantly recognizable by its ornate green and gold painted towers and decorative castings that give it a distinctly elegant character unlike any other crossing in London. For the best compositions, position yourself on the riverbank to either side and use a wide to standard zoom, around 24-50mm, to frame the bridge with the water and sky. The north bank near the Hammersmith towpath gives you a clean angle looking south, while the south bank at Furnivall Gardens offers a slightly elevated perspective. Golden hour light, especially in the late afternoon when the sun catches the gilded details on the towers, brings out the warmth of the metalwork beautifully. The bridge is currently closed to vehicles, so foot traffic is light and you can take your time without interruption. (London, England, United Kingdom)
