Kam Kui Shek Teng sits at the edge of a ridge above High Island Reservoir in Sai Kung, crowned by a dramatic hexagonal basalt column that rises from the hillside like a natural monument. The rock itself makes for a striking foreground subject, and the panoramic views stretching across the reservoir and surrounding green hills are among the best in Hong Kong. Shoot from slightly below the column to emphasize its scale against the sky, or position yourself along the ridge to layer the rock with the reservoir and distant peaks behind it. Golden hour light in the late afternoon wraps the basalt in warm tones and casts long shadows across the hexagonal faces. A wide angle lens handles the sweeping landscapes well, while a short telephoto helps isolate the column against the water. The trek from Sai Wan Pavilion takes roughly an hour each way on uneven terrain, so wear proper footwear. (Sai Kung, Hong Kong)
