Perched above the village of Reine, this classic Lofoten viewpoint delivers one of the most dramatic mountain-meets-fjord compositions in all of Norway. The view takes in the jagged peaks of Reinebringen reflected in the still dark waters below, with the red and yellow fishermen's cabins of Reine scattered at their base. A wide angle lens in the 16 to 24mm range works well for capturing the full sweep of the scene, though a short telephoto lets you compress the layers of peaks behind the village. The hike to reach the viewpoint is steep but well-marked, taking roughly 45 minutes from the trailhead near Reine. Blue hour and golden hour reward the effort most, especially in summer when the midnight sun keeps the sky alive with color well past midnight. Arrive early or late to avoid crowds on the narrow ridge platform. (Reine, Nordland, Norway)
