Lost Lagoon
Lost Lagoon sits at the western edge of Stanley Park, a peaceful freshwater lake ringed by forested trails with the North Shore mountains rising behind it on clear days. The classic composition is from the northern shore, where you can line up the still water as a foreground reflection with the mountain peaks in the distance; a wide angle lens works well here to take in the full sweep. Early morning is the best time to visit, when the water is glassy and mist sometimes drifts across the surface, and the soft light filters through the surrounding trees. Swans, herons, and ducks are frequent subjects and add life to otherwise landscape-focused frames. The paved perimeter path lets you circle the entire lagoon to scout different angles. Parking is available near the Georgia Street entrance, and the spot is an easy walk from the West End neighborhood. (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada)
