Norvan Falls is a striking 20-metre cascade tucked deep in Lynn Headwaters Regional Park, surrounded by dense old-growth forest that keeps the light soft and diffused almost any time of day. The falls drop into a rocky pool, giving you a natural foreground to work with; position yourself low near the base to emphasize the height of the drop, or step back to use the moss-covered boulders and framing trees as leading elements. Overcast days are ideal here since the forest canopy and cliff walls create harsh contrast in direct sun, and the flat light lets you push longer shutter speeds to smooth out the water. A wide-angle lens works well for environmental shots, while a short telephoto isolates the falls themselves. The trail is roughly 10 kilometres return and accessible year-round, making it a reliable winter option when higher elevation trails are snowed in. (North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada)
