Al Qudra Desert sits about 40 kilometers outside central Dubai, offering sweeping dunes, scattered desert scrub, and some of the darkest skies accessible from the city. The landscape rewards wide compositions that emphasize the rolling dune ridges against the horizon, and the absence of hard infrastructure means you can find clean, uncluttered frames in most directions. Shoot from the top of a dune looking back toward lower terrain for strong foreground texture, or get low to the sand to exaggerate the curves of the ridgeline. Golden hour light before sunset is ideal, when warm directional light carves deep shadows across the dunes and brings out the color of the sand. After dark, the low light pollution makes this one of the better spots near Dubai for Milky Way photography, so a wide-angle lens in the 14-24mm range is worth bringing. Drive in with a suitable vehicle and wear closed shoes for dune climbing. (Dubai, United Arab Emirates)
