Queen Elizabeth Park

Queen Elizabeth Park - Photo by whereitsb1 / 1

Sitting at the highest point in Vancouver, Queen Elizabeth Park gives you an elevated vantage point where the city skyline lines up directly against the snow-capped Coast Mountains, making it one of the most compelling cityscape backdrops in Canada. The main overlook on the south-facing slope is where most photographers set up, but walking around the sunken garden below puts you at a lower angle with manicured blooms and terraced stonework in the foreground. A wide to standard zoom in the 24-70mm range handles most situations well here. Golden hour before sunset is ideal, as the warm light catches the mountain peaks and city buildings simultaneously. The Bloedel Conservatory dome also works as a compositional anchor when shooting across the gardens. The park is well maintained and accessible year-round, with parking available on site.
