Saint-Étienne-du-Mont
Standing just steps from the Panthéon, this late Gothic and Renaissance church rewards photographers with one of Paris's most ornate and photogenic facades, featuring a layered frontage of pointed arches, classical columns, and intricate stonework that makes it stand out from any other church in the city. Shoot from directly across the small square to capture the full facade, or move to a slight angle to emphasize its depth and sculptural detail. Inside, the rood screen, the only surviving one in Paris, is a stunning architectural feature worth composing carefully with a wide angle lens. Natural light filtering through the stained glass is best in the morning when the sun hits the interior from the east. The surrounding streets offer narrow framing opportunities with the church rising above the rooftops. A 24-35mm lens handles both the tight exterior square and the grand interior well.
