Toronto City Hall
Toronto City Hall is one of Canada's most recognizable pieces of modernist architecture, featuring two curved towers of unequal height that cradle a flying-saucer-shaped council chamber between them. The wide reflecting pool in Nathan Phillips Square gives you a clean foreground element, and on calm days the towers mirror beautifully in the water. Shoot from the square's ground level with a wide angle lens, around 16 to 24mm, to capture both towers arching overhead while including the pool's reflection. The iconic "Toronto" sign near the pool makes for a strong compositional anchor in the foreground. Early morning offers the softest light and virtually empty plaza, while winter months bring skaters to the rink and festive lighting that adds atmosphere. The square is fully accessible and open at all hours, giving you flexibility to experiment with long exposures after dark when the illuminated towers reflect in the water.
