Alley Oop
This narrow downtown alley is painted end to end in bold pink and red tones, with basketball court markings and graphic line work that turn the pavement itself into your subject. Shooting from a low angle at one end of the alley gives you a strong vanishing point and lets the painted lines converge toward a natural focal point, especially effective with a wide angle lens in the 16 to 24mm range. A subject walking or standing mid-alley adds scale and context, and the tight walls on either side help compress the scene. Overcast days work well here since the diffused light keeps the colors saturated without harsh shadows from the buildings above. The alley is still active, so watch for delivery trucks and be ready to work quickly between interruptions. Mornings on weekdays tend to be quieter and give you more time to set up without interruption. (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada)
