E 6th Ave
This tree-lined residential street transforms into one of Vancouver's most striking autumn canopies, with large mature trees arching overhead to create a natural tunnel of gold, amber, and deep red foliage. Walk the block near Slocan Street and shoot straight down the centre of the road to capture the tunnel effect, using the receding lane lines and parked cars as leading lines drawing the eye deep into the frame. A longer focal length in the 70-200mm range compresses the canopy beautifully and isolates the colour. Overcast days work surprisingly well here, as soft diffused light brings out the richness of the fall tones without harsh shadows, though a sunny afternoon adds warmth and occasional light filtering through the leaves. Come in mid to late October for peak colour, arrive early on weekdays to avoid traffic in your shots, and simply stand in the middle of the road and look both directions for your compositions.
