The Second Narrows Rail Bridge is a working vertical lift railway bridge spanning Burrard Inlet, and its industrial character makes it a compelling subject for architecture and infrastructure photography. The tall lift towers and steel truss structure photograph well against the mountains of the North Shore, and you can frame the bridge with the water below and snowy peaks behind for a classic Pacific Northwest composition. Shooting from the shoreline on either side gives you wide options; a 24-70mm lens handles most angles comfortably, while a longer focal length lets you compress the towers against the mountains. Early morning light is ideal, when mist sometimes sits on the inlet and the low sun catches the steel framework. The area around the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Crossing nearby offers elevated vantage points looking back toward the rail bridge. Parking is available along the North Shore side near the industrial waterfront. (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada)
