Grant Street Cherry Trees

Grant Street Cherry Trees - Photo by whereitsb1 / 1

Grant Street offers one of Vancouver's most beloved canopy shots, where a row of mature cherry trees arch overhead to create a natural tunnel of colour along a quiet residential block. In spring, the blossoms transform the street into a wall-to-wall wash of soft pink, and in autumn the same trees shift to warm golds and oranges. Position yourself low and centered in the middle of the street to maximize the tunnel effect, using the road and sidewalk lines as leading lines drawing the eye forward. A 35mm or 50mm lens works well here and keeps the perspective feeling natural. Overcast days soften harsh shadows and help the blossoms pop without blown highlights, though a clear morning with low angled light adds depth and dimension. Come on a weekday morning to avoid foot traffic and parked cars cluttering the frame. (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada)
