Siwash Rock is a striking sea stack rising about 16 metres from the ocean's edge along the Stanley Park Seawall, topped with a small cluster of trees that give it an almost sculptural silhouette against the water and sky. The rock photographs best when you position yourself along the seawall to the south or north, using the curved shoreline or the path itself as a leading line drawing the eye toward the formation. A telephoto lens in the 70-200mm range lets you compress the background and isolate the stack against the North Shore mountains or open water, while a wider lens captures more environmental context with the forest behind it. Golden hour light, especially in the late afternoon, wraps the rock in warm tones and creates pleasing shadows on its textured surface. The seawall path is paved and accessible year-round; low tide exposes more of the rock's base and adds interesting foreground texture if you step down toward the water's edge.
