The Valldøla River has carved a dramatic gorge through solid rock at Gudbrandsjuvet, creating a narrow ravine where churning turquoise water rushes between sheer walls just a few metres apart. The geology here is the main subject: ancient potholes, sculpted rock faces, and the raw power of compressed water make for compelling close-up and wide compositions. You can shoot from the viewing platforms and bridge directly over the gorge, looking straight down into the foaming channel or framing the canyon walls rising around you. A wide angle lens works well to capture the scale and depth, while a telephoto lets you isolate the water textures and rock formations. Overcast days are ideal, softening the light and bringing out the deep greens and greys of the stone without harsh shadows. The site is well maintained and easily accessible from the road, with short walking paths connecting multiple viewpoints. (Grønning, Møre og Romsdal, Norway)
