Ilfracombe Beach

Ilfracombe Beach sits on the western edge of town, tucked among dark rocky outcrops and jagged cliffs that face out into the Bristol Channel. The beach looks northwest/west, putting the setting sun directly over the water and making it a perfect sunset locations along this stretch of coast. The Bristol Channel has one of the highest tidal ranges in the world, so low tide exposes a wide stretch of wet sand and rock. The dark, rugged outcrops give you something to work with in front of the horizon, and the variety of formations means you can shift position and find different compositions without moving far. As the tide pulls back, the wet sand between the rocks mirrors the sky and adds another layer to the scene. (Ilfracombe, Devon, England)
