Wildersmouth Beach

Wildersmouth Beach sits right in the centre of Ilfracombe, tucked peacefully between Capstone Hill and the Landmark Theatre with the cliffs wrapping closely around it on either side. It is a small cove, and at high tide there is very little beach left, so arriving around low tide is essential if you want to capture the sand, shingle, and rock formations. The rocky cliffs framing both sides give the cove an enclosed feel that works well compositionally, and the exposed rocks and pools at low tide offer plenty of foreground texture. The Landmark Theatre's distinctive twin conical towers sit immediately above the beach to the southwest, making it one of the only spots in Ilfracombe where you can shoot the architecture with the sea in the same frame. The beach faces northwest, so it catches afternoon and evening light well and avoids harsh morning sun. It is accessible directly from the promenade making it a great addition to a day exploring the Ilfracombe area. (Ilfracombe, Devon, England)
