Låtefossen is one of Norway's most dramatic roadside waterfalls, where two separate streams merge mid-fall before crashing down beneath a historic six-arched stone bridge on National Road 13. The merging point of the two streams is your main compositional target; position yourself on or near the bridge to capture the convergence with the arches framing the base, or drop down to the rocky riverbed below for a wider view that includes the full drop and the bridge together. A wide angle lens works well to take in the full scene, while a telephoto lets you isolate the merging streams. Overcast days are ideal since the soft, diffused light tames the contrast and brings out the greens in the surrounding hillside; bright sun creates harsh shadows in the gorge. A polarizing filter and a tripod for long exposures will help manage the spray and smooth out the rushing water. The waterfall is right off the road and easy to access year-round.
