Ringedalsvatnet is a long, glacial lake in the Hardanger region, best known as the body of water you look out over from Trolltunga, the iconic rock ledge that juts out above its northern shore. The lake itself stretches for several kilometers through a steep-walled valley, and its deep turquoise color against the grey rock faces makes it one of the most visually striking scenes in western Norway. If you are hiking to Trolltunga, the lake dominates the view from the ledge, so a wide-angle lens works well to capture both the rock and the water below. You can also find strong compositions from the hiking trail before reaching Trolltunga, where the lake curves through the valley. Overcast days actually work in your favor here, reducing glare on the water and softening the light across the mountains. The hike is long and strenuous, so start early and wear proper boots.
