National Museum of Singapore
The National Museum of Singapore is one of the city's most striking colonial buildings, combining a grand 19th-century neoclassical facade with a sweeping modern glass rotunda added during its 2006 renovation. The contrast between the white rendered stone of the original structure and the curved contemporary wing gives you strong compositional possibilities from multiple angles. Shoot the front facade straight-on with a wide or standard lens to capture the symmetry and the ornate dome, or move around to the side to include the glass rotunda alongside the historic stonework. The building is surrounded by mature trees and open lawn, which lets you work with natural framing. Late afternoon light hits the white facade warmly, and blue hour is particularly rewarding when the interior illumination glows through the glass panels. The surrounding grounds are open and easy to navigate on foot. (Singapore)
