Nigardsbreen is a dramatic glacier tongue descending from the vast Jostedalsbreen ice field, offering rare close access to ancient blue ice formations, crevasses, and sculpted meltwater textures. The glacier face and surrounding moraine landscape give you a strong sense of scale, especially when you include hikers or the rocky foreground debris for reference. Wide angles work well to capture the full sweep of ice meeting valley, while a mid-range zoom lets you isolate the deep turquoise tones within the ice fissures. Overcast days are ideal since diffused light brings out the blue hues of the glacier without harsh shadows, though golden hour adds warmth to the surrounding peaks. You can walk the shoreline of Nigardsbrevatnet lake for reflection shots, or take the short boat crossing to get closer to the snout. A toll road runs from Breheimsenteret to the lake car park, and the road closes in winter. (Nigardsbreen Nature Reserve, Vestland, Norway)
