Pont de Bir-Hakeim
Pont de Bir-Hakeim is a two-level iron bridge crossing the Seine that has become one of Paris's most rewarding spots for architectural and cityscape photography, largely because it frames the Eiffel Tower in a way few other locations can match. Walk to the center of the lower pedestrian level and shoot toward the tower using the repeating iron columns and vaulted ceiling as a strong leading line; a wide angle lens in the 16 to 24mm range works particularly well here to emphasize the tunnel-like perspective. The upper level carries the metro line, so timing a shot with a train passing overhead adds movement and context to the scene. Early morning gives you soft light and near-empty walkways, while blue hour after sunset is exceptional when the bridge lights and the Eiffel Tower's illumination both kick in. The bridge is easily reached on foot from Passy or Bir-Hakeim metro station. (Paris, Île-de-France, France)
