Mosfellskirkja
Mosfellskirkja is a striking modern chapel set against the volcanic hills of Mosfellsdalur valley, its bold white triangular form making it one of the most architecturally distinctive small churches in Iceland. The clean geometric silhouette contrasts beautifully with the rugged green and brown landscape, and the surrounding cemetery adds foreground texture and human scale. Shoot from slightly downhill to emphasize the peaked roofline against the sky, or position yourself to include the valley stretching out behind the church. Overcast days are ideal here since Iceland's soft diffused light brings out the white facade without harsh shadows, though golden hour on a clear evening can be spectacular if clouds are moving through. A wide to standard zoom in the 24-50mm range covers most compositions well. The church sits just off Route 48 and is easy to reach by car from Reykjavik in under 30 minutes.
